Japan day 01/13 - Arrival to Narita, train to Ueno, exploring Asakusa

On Friday I flew from Frankfurt to Beijing and from there I arrived at Narita airport on Sunday evening with AirChina (the prices were cheap and their services was great), picked up a preordered SIM card, got some cash from 7 Eleven ATM, bought some konbini snacks, Suica card, and then took the Keisei Skyliner train to Tokyo Ueno, put the suitcase in my hostel near Uguisudani, then explored some more of the Taitou area, especially Asakusa and Sensouji.

Some might know this video is what pushed me to book this trip!

Idk if I consciously suffered from jetlag but I was so hyped and explored until like 5 AM!
It felt completely unreal and dreamlike to suddenly be here in person after only binging Japan travel videos. I did make the decision to go on this trip only two months ago because I spent hours searching for a flight within my budget and knew it was time to go, I almost went even sooner but really appreciated the time to prepare in hindsight.
Even just walking through regular streets was absolutely incredible. And seeing Sensouji, what a sight, one I never thought to behold with my own eyes!

A lot of the first night I spent just hanging out around Sensouji and the area around it, there was also a gorgeous inside shopping street, being there on my own in the dark felt almost haunting, like liminal, but in a good way.

On the way back to the hostel I happened to find the Asakusa Donki, I went through the entire store and already found some souvenirs to take home. Other than that I was already so in love with the konbini snacks and the vending machine drinks. What would fill this void after returning? Answer: it was sadness. But at least I have my memories and pictures and souvenirs and plans to visit again next year ❤️
