Yes, Maebashi Witches, it must be one of the modern anime from earlier this year that I've heard the fewest amounts of people talk about, but still I'd dare say it's a bit of a hidden gem. It has a very similar premise to even rarer anime Artiswitch, a small series about a witch who leads people who've lost their path in life into her shop to help set things right, this one was set in Harajuku. Maebashi Witches is kind of like that, except it's group instead of a single witch, and they're all teenagers with their own problems so things don't always fare as smoothly as you'd hope. Other than script writer Yoshida Erika san neither of these have any staff or VAs or anything else in common.
But anyway, it gave me a reason to visit Maebashi! It was right on my way from Ikaho Onsen to Saitama Oomiya so there was no reason not to! The vibe of the city is a bit different, the amount car traffic and bike lines switching sides made everything feel very chaotic. Still the city had many pretty and unique sights to behold.
As you can already see when you arrive at the main station they have fully embraced Maebashi Witches to be the anime to represent their city, you can find posters in so many places, and I think that's very endearing. I was surprised to see nothing acknowledging Dandadan or Yofukashi no Uta.
Another big thanks to AnimePilgrimage.com!
